Hold On My Heart by Genesis

This has been a Phil Collins week here. We were way behind on the DVR on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and finally watched the episode with him on it. Ever since then, I've heard either his singles or Genesis songs a bunch in the last few days. We listened to the playlist on Sunday while decorating for Christmas and heard 3 or 4 songs just in the couple of hours we did that. Between Genesis and Phil Collins singles, you'll hear his voice a bunch on this blog.

This album is listed on the Album's I've Owned page.

Hold on my heart
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
Hold on my heart
cos I'm looking over your shoulder
ooh please don't rush in this time
don't show her how you feel

Hold on my heart
throw me a lifeline
I'll keep a place for you
somewhere deep inside

So hold on my heart
please tell her to be patient
cos there has never been a time
that I wanted something more

If I can recall this feeling
and I know there's a chance
oh I will be there
yes I will be there
be there for you
whenever you want me to
whenever you call oh I will be there
Yes I will be there

Hold on my heart
don't let her see you crying
no matter where I go
she'll always be with me

So hold on my heart
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
So hold on my heart...

Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival

This was my dad's favorite group. He used to have a record which I played some after he died and grew to like some of their music.

I see the bad moon arising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see those bad times today

Don't go around tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise

I hear hurricanes a blowing
I know the end is coming soon
I fear rivers over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruin

Well don't go around tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise, oh right

Hope you got your things together
Hope you are quite prepared to die
Looks like we're in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye

Well don't go around tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise

Don't come around tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise

Raise Your Glass by Pink

This is the 2nd Pink (P!nk) (Whatever) song on this blog. My wife introduced me to her music when we met. I had heard of her but never any of her music. Now I'd say she's a favorite. I have quite a few of her songs on here. This was the closest thing I could find to an actual music video.

Right right, turn off the lights,
We gonna lose our minds tonight,
What's the dealio?

I love when it's all too much,
Five a.m. turn the radio up
Where's the rock and roll?

Party crasher,
Panty snatcher,
Call me up if you want a gangsta
Don't be fancy, just get dancy
Why so serious?

So raise your glass if you are wrong,
In all the right ways,
All my underdogs,
We will never be never be, anything but loud
And nitty gritty dirty little freaks
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass

Slam slam, oh hot damn
What part of party don't you understand,
Wish you'd just freak out (freak out already)
Can't stop, comin' in hot,
I should be locked up right on the spot
It's so on right now (so fuckin' on right now)

Party crasher,
Panty snatcher,
Call me up if you want a gangsta
Don't be fancy, just get dancy
Why so serious?

So raise your glass if you are wrong,
In all the right ways,
All my underdogs,
We will never be never be, anything but loud
"Maybe gritty dirty little freaks"
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass

(Oh shit my glass is empty, that sucks)
So if you're too school for cool,
And you're treated like a fool,
(Treated like a fool)
You can choose to let it go
We can always, we can always,
Party on our own

(So raise your, ah fuck)
So raise your glass if you are wrong,
In all the right ways,
All my underdogs,
We will never be never be, anything but loud
Maybe nitty gritty dirty little freaks
So raise your glass if you are wrong,
In all the right ways,

All my underdogs,
We will never be never be, anything but loud
Maybe gritty dirty little freaks
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass (for me)
Just come on and come on and raise your glass (for me)

No Better Than This by Lee Brice

This is my first of Lee Brice but I have a bunch of his songs on here. I have a bunch alone from this album. He was knew to me and I went to check out this album and liked most of it.

We got some Hank on deck
Snoop Dogg pumpin
The bass behind the seats
Got my baby's butt jumpin

Somebody brought a jar
Got the whole party buzzin
The word on the street
Is everybody's comin
(Everybody's coming tonight babe. Come on.)

Well it don't get
No better than this
We got the sunshine on our face
Moonshine on our lips

Well around here
This is as good as it gets
We got the summertime with my friends
Everybody take a sip
Well it don't get
Yeah it don't get better than this

Well if your beer's gettin low
Go ahead and kill it
Got the Yeti in the back
Full of Bud Light chillin
(Aw that beer is gettin cold)

Well if it gets too hot
Take your girl to the river
Grab a rope swing knot
Backflip
Make her shiver
(Make her shiver now)

Well it don't get
No better than this
We got the sunshine on our face
Moonshine on our lips

Well around here
This is as good as it gets
We got the summertime with my friends
Everybody take a sip
Well it don't get
Yeah it don't get better than this
(Don't get better than this. Aww yeah.)

We can stay right here
Let the wind blow 'round
Stick our toes in the mud
Let the sun go down
Til the moonlight fades away

We can hop in my truck
And take a little ride
Hold your head out the window
Let your hair blowdry
Whatever you want to do girl
(It don't matter. Either way)

Well it don't get
No better than this
We got the sunshine on our face
Moonshine on our lips

Well around here
This is as good as it gets
We got the summertime with our friends
Everybody take a sip
Well it don't get

Well it don't get
No better than this
We got the sunshine on our face
Moonshine on our lips

Well around here
This is as good as it gets
We got the summertime with our friends
Everybody take a sip
Well it don't get
Yeah it don't get better than this
Aww it don't get better than this
(Yeah it don't get no better.)

Break On Me by Keith Urban

This is our 2nd song by Keith Urban but the 1st off his latest album. I haven't heard this song a lot yet but I liked it when I first heard it so I stuck it on here.

There'll be days your heart don't wanna beat
You pray more than you breathe
And you just wanna fall to pieces
And nights, those 2 AM calls
Where dreams become walls
And you just need a break
Break on me

Shatter like glass
Come apart in my hands
Take as long as it takes, girl
Break on me
Put your head on my chest
Let me help you forget
When your heart needs to break
Just break on me

There'll be times when someone you know
Becomes someone you knew
But you'd do anything to change it
And words you wanna take back
But you know you can't
When the page just won't turn
And it still hurts
Break on me

Shatter like glass
Come apart in my hands
Take as long as it takes, girl
Break on me
Put your head on my chest
Let me help you forget
When your heart needs to break
Just break on me

Oh, when you need somebody
When you need somebody right now
You're where I'll be
Break on me

Shatter like glass
Come apart in my hands
Take as long as it takes, girl
Break on me
Put your head on my chest
Let me help you forget
When your heart needs to break
Just break on me
Break on me
Break on me, baby

We had a change in our top 5 (30 days) after about a week of the same songs sitting there. Yesterdays Champagne Supernova by Oasis jumped all the way up to the 2nd spot and bumped off Carry on My Wayward Song by Kansas after 13 days.

There was also a change in the top 5 (all-time) and it was a surprise. The Real Thing by Bo Bice, which was posted on October 10th, all of the sudden jumped up to the 4th spot knocking Automatic by the Pointer Sisters off the list.

Champagne Supernova by Oasis

I love this song, as do a lot of people. Not so much the lyrics but this is a great song to belt out in the car. I know of Oasis and probably have a couple of their songs but I couldn't tell you what else.

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky

Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

'Cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

Cos people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high

Blame It On the Rain by Milli Vanilli

I know, it is and isn't Milli Vanilli. No matter who sang it, it's a good song.

You said you didn't need her
You told her good-bye (good-bye)
You sacrificed a good love
To satisfy your pride
Now you wished
That you should have her (have her)
And you feel like such a fool
You let her walk away
Now it just don't feel the same
Gotta blame it on something
Gotta blame it on something

Blame it on the rain (rain)
Blame it on the stars (stars)
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah yeah
You can blame it on the rain
Get
Ooh, ooh (ooh)
I can't, I can't. I can't, can't stand the rain
I can't, I can't. I can't, can't stand the rain
Yeah, yeah
Should've told her you were sorry (sorry) huh
Could have said you were wrong
But no you couldn't do that. No, no
You had to prove you were strong ooh
If you hadn't been so blinded (blinded)
She might still be there with you
You want her back again
But she just don't feel the same
Gotta blame it on something
Gotta blame it on something

Blame it on the rain that was falling, falling
Blame it on the stars that did shine at night
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah yeah

You can blame it on the rain
Cause the rain don't mind
And the rain don't care
You got to blame it on something
(Blame it on the rain)
(Blame it on the stars)
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah, yeah
You can blame it on the rain
Girl

Ooh, ooh (ooh)
Girl
I can't, I can't. I can't, can't stand the rain
I can't, I can't. I can't, can't stand the rain

Get
Girl
(Whatever you do)
(Blame it on the rain yeah, yeah) [Repeat x3]
You can blame it on the rain, blame it on the rain,
blame it on the rain baby
(Blame it on the rain yeah yeah)
Blame it on the stars that did shine that night
(Blame it on the rain yeah yeah)
Blame it, blame it on the rain
Woo
I'm walking
I'm walking

Walking in the rain
Walking in the rain

(Rain, rain)
(Stars, stars)
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
(Blame it on the rain)
Yeah yeah
(Blame it on the rain)
That keeps falling, falling
(Blame it on the stars)
That did shine that night
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah yeah
Blame it on the rain (rain, rain)

Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert

I don't have a ton of Miranda Lambert on here but I have a few but I know this is definitely my favorite. I'm not sure why because it's not like I feel what it talks about. I just like it.

I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors
I screamed his name ‘til the neighbors called the cops
I numbed the pain at the expense of my liver
Don’t know what I did next, all I know I couldn’t stop

Word got around to the barflies and the baptists
My mama’s phone started ringin’ off the hook
I can hear her now sayin’ she ain’t gonna have it
Don’t matter how you feel, it only matters how you look

Go and fix your make up, girl, it’s just a break up
Run and hide your crazy and start actin’ like a lady
'Cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together
Even when you fall apart
But this ain’t my mama’s broken heart

Wish I could be just a little less dramatic
Like a Kennedy when Camelot went down in flames
Leave it to me to be holdin’ the matches
When the fire trucks show up and there’s nobody else to blame

Can’t get revenge and keep a spotless reputation
Sometimes revenge is a choice you gotta make
My mama came from a softer generation
Where you get a grip and bite your lip just to save a little face

Go and fix your make up, girl, it’s just a break up
Run and hide your crazy and start actin’ like a lady
'Cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together
Even when you fall apart
But this ain’t my mama’s broken heart

Powder your nose, paint your toes
Line your lips and keep 'em closed
Cross your legs, dot your eyes
And never let 'em see you cry

Go and fix your make up, well it’s just a break up
Run and hide your crazy and start actin’ like a lady
'Cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together
Even when you fall apart
But this ain’t my mama’s broken heart

In The Light by DC Talk

Finally! It took 127 songs but I finally got a DC Talk song. I have 34 of their songs on my playlist (2nd most behind Petra) and I'm just now finally getting one. This isn't my favorite song of theirs but it's from my favorite album. I liked them when they were strictly a rap group but then this album came out and they showed they could do so much more.

This album is listed under Albums I've Owned page

This artist is under my Seen in Concert page

This artist has more than 20 songs on this blog.

(1, 2, 3)

I keep trying to find a life
On my own, apart from You
I am the king of excuses
I've got one for every selfish thing I do

What's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior

[chorus]
I wanna be in the Light
As You are in the Light
I wanna shine like the stars in the heavens
Oh, Lord be my Light and be my salvation
Cause all I want is to be in the Light
All I want is to be in the Light

The disease of self runs through my blood
It's a cancer fatal to my soul
Every attempt on my behalf has failed
To bring this sickness under control

Tell me, what's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior

[repeat chorus]

Honesty becomes me
(There's nothing left to lose)
The secrets that did run me
(In Your presence are defused)
Pride has no position
(And riches have no worth)
The fame that once did cover me
(Has been sentenced to this Earth)
Has been sentenced to this Earth

Tell me, what's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior

[repeat chorus 2x]

(There's no other place that I want to be)
(No other place that I can see)
(A place to be that's just right)
(Someday I'm gonna be in the Light)
(You are in the Light)
(That's where I need to be)
(That's right where I need to be)

Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden

I don't think I have any more Savage Garden on this blog but I also didn't know they sang this song, so there's that.

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do
I will be strong I will be faithful
'cause I'm counting on
A new beginning
A reason for living
A deeper meaning, yeah

[chorus:]
I want to stand with you on
a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining
brightly in the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish send it to heaven
Then make you want to cry
The tears of joy for all the
pleasure and the certainty
That we're surrounded by the
comfort and protection of

The highest powers
In lonely hours
The tears devour you

[chorus]

Oh can you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'Cause it's standing right
before you
All that you need will surely come

I'll be your dream I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do

[chorus]

I want to stand with you on a
mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to live like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Fell On Black Days by Soundgarden

Great song, kind of a ballad from a hard rock band. I guess it's considered grunge according to Wikipedia but any good slow song from a rock group is a ballad to me. Either way, it's a great song and definitely not the only Soundgarden song on this blog.

Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded and now I'm doing time
Now I'm doing time
'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

Whomsoever I've cured, I've sickened now
And whomsoever I've cradled, I've put you down
I'm a search light soul they say
But I can't see it in the night

I'm only faking when I get it right
When I get it right

'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate? Yeah

Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh

So what you wanted to see good
Has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours
Has made it mine

Don't you lock up something
That you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
No, not tying, no, not tying

I sure don't mind a change
I sure don't mind a change
Yeah, I sure don't mind, sure don't mind a change
I sure don't mind a change

'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

I sure don't mind a change

Cum On Feel The Noize by Quiet Riot

Is it sad that I didn't know this was a cover (neither did my wife) until I googled the video to post? I did go listen to the original by Slade but I still like this one, probably because it's what I know. If I had known it was a cover, I still would have liked it because what I like in a cover is that it's close to the original. The speed of the song needs to still be close, it doesn't matter to me if they jam it up with louder music or even sometimes softer music, but the speed of the lyrics has to be close.

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

So you think I got an evil mind
I tell you honey

I don't know why
I don't know why

So you think my singin's out of time
It makes me money

I don't know why
I don't know why
Anymore
Oh no

So cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Baby!

So you say I got a funny face
I got no worries

And I don't know why
I don't know why

Oh I gotta sing with some disgrace
I'm in no hurry

And I don't know why
I don't know why
Anymore
No no no

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Baby
Come on!

Well you think we have a lazy time
You should know better

I don't know why
I don't know why

So you say I got a dirty mind
I'm a mean go getter

I don't know why
I don't know why
Anymore
Oh no

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Baby!

Come on, (come on) feel it
Girls rock your boys (come on, rock it!)
We'll get wild, wild, wild
We're gonna get wild! (wild, wild, wild)
We're gonna get rocked tonight (cum on feel the noize)

Rock it tonight (girls rock your boys)
We'll get wild, wild, wild
OH YEAH!!

Ah, ah, ah (woooo)
Ah, ah, ah

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild

Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah

Higher Love by Steve Winwood

I'm sure my wife will skip this post, she does not like Steve Winwood. She's never given me a reason why but there are a few artists that she just can't listen to. That doesn't mean I can't though, they are still on my playlists. Steve Winwood has a number of songs on this playlist.

Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, I'll look inside mine
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

Worlds are turning and we're just hanging on
Facing our fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, and it's real to me
There must be someone who's feeling for me
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring be a higher love
I could rise above on a higher love

I will wait for it
I'm not too late for it
Until then, I'll sing my song
To cheer the night along

Bring it, oh bring it.

I could light the night up with my soul on fire
I could make the sun shine from pure desire
Let me feel that love come over me
Let me feel how strong it could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban

I've heard this a number of times but I couldn't really tell you much about it. If you had asked me I would have assumed it was a Christian song but apparently it's not.

When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

You raise me up to more than I can be.

More Power To Ya by Petra

Another Petra song of many to come. This is one of the earlier 80's ones and is the song that the album is named after.

You say you've been feeling weaker, weaker by the day
You say you can't make the joy of you're Salvation stay
But good things come to them that wait, not to those who hesitate
So, hurry up and wait upon the Lord

More power to ya, when you're standing on His word
When you're trusting with your whole heart
In the message you have heard
More power to ya, when we're all in one accord
They that wait upon the Lord they shall renew
They shall renew their strength

Jesus promised His Disciples, He'd give strength to them
Jesus told them all to tarry in Jerusalem
When they were all in one accord the power of His Spirit Poured
And they began to turn the world around

More power to ya, when you're standing on His word
When you're trusting with your Whole heart
In the message you have heard
More power to ya, when we're all in one accord
They that wait upon the Lord they shall renew
They shall renew their strength

So be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might
Put on all His Armour and fight the good fight
Instead of all of our weakness He becomes so strong
He gives us the power and the strength to carry on

More power to ya, when you're standing on His word
When you're trusting with your whole heart
In the message you have heard
More power to ya, when we're all in one accord
They that wait upon the Lord they shall renew
They shall renew their strength

Bad Girlfriend by Theory Of A Deadman

Great song to rock out to, as are a number of songs from Theory of A Deadman. The song itself is great as well as the music, which makes it a great song to jam to.

My Girlfriend's a dick magnet My Girlfriend's gotta have it
She's hot, can't stop, up on stage, doing shots, Tip the man he'll
Ring the bell, get her drunk she'll scream like hell.
Dirty girl, gettin' down, dance with guys from outta town.
Grab her ass, actin' tough. Mess with her, she'll fuck you up.
No one really knows if she's drunk or if she's stoned, but she's
Comin' back to my place tonight!

[Chorus:]
She likes to shake her ass she grinds it to the beat
She likes to pull my hair when I make her grind her teeth
I like to strip her down she's naughty to the end
You know what she is, no doubt about it
She's a bad, bad girlfriend!

Red thong, Party's on, Love this song, sing along.
Come together, leave alone, see you later back at home
No one really knows if she's drunk or is she's stoned
But she's coming back to my place tonight. I say
No one really knows just how far she's gonna go,
But I'm gonna find out later tonight

[Chorus]

Doesn't take her long to make things right.
But does it make her wrong to
Have the time of her life. the time of her life
My girlfriend's a dick magnet My girlfriend's gotta have it

She's a gold digger now you figure out it's over, pull the trigger.
Futures finished, there it went, savings gone,
The money spent

I look around and all I see is, no good, bad and ugly,
Man she's hot and fixed to be, the future
Ex-Miss Connolly!

[Chorus]

She's a bad, bad girlfriend.
She's a bad, bad girlfriend.
