Flood by Jars of Clay

Funny thing about this song is I never realized it was a Christian song until a few years ago. The local rock station that I used to listen to all the time played it so I just assumed it was regular Rock. I believe it came up who sang it at one point, and I was pretty sure Jars of Clay was a Christian group, Either way, I love this song. It's one of those songs that has a nice slow start, then kicks it in quickly. It's also one of those songs that get's stuck in my head and my wife usually ends up yelling at me to shut up.

This is the only Jars of Clay song I have on this blog. I never got into them back when I listened to Christian Music, I think they may have actually started to come out just as I was getting away from the genre. If you know any other good songs by them, let me know and I'll check them out. I really like this song so I can't imagine they don't have others that I like.

Rain, rain on my face
It hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

[Chorus:]

But if I can't swim after forty days
and my mind is crushed by the thrashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need you to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again

Downpour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean, I'm losing control
Dark sky all around
I can't feel my feet touching the ground

[Chorus]

Calm the storms that drench my eyes
Dry the streams still flowing
Cast down all the waves of sin
And guilt that overthrow me

[Chorus]

Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need you to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again
